The Sikkim Krantikari Morcha (SKM) has won a single victory in the Sikkim Assembly. The results of the assembly elections held on April 19 came on Sunday. According to the Election Commission of India, SKM won 31 seats. Similarly, Sikkim Democratic Front (SDF) led by former Chief Minister Pawan Chamling had to settle for 1 seat.
Former Chief Minister Chamling himself has been defeated from both the constituencies . In Poklok-Kamrang assembly constituency, former Chief Minister Chamling was defeated by Bhojraj Rai of Sikkim Krantikari Morcha (SKM). Chamling was defeated by Rai by a margin of 3,063 votes. While Rai got 8 thousand 37 votes, Chamling got only 4 thousand 974 votes . Arjun Rai of Bharatiya Janata Party got 739 votes in this region.
Former Chief Minister Chamling has also been defeated from Namchebung area . He was defeated by Raju Basnet of SKM in this area. While Basnet got 7 thousand 195 votes, Chamling got 4 thousand 939 votes. Chamling was the only SDF MP in the current assembly. SDF's Tenzing Norbu Lamtha has won by defeating SKM's Kunga Nima Lepcha in Syari Assembly Constituency.
The current Chief Minister Premsingh Tamang (PS Gole) has won in both Renok and Soreng-Chakung areas . In Soreng-Chakung, Tamang SDF candidate Dr. Eddie Subba has been defeated by a margin of 7,396 votes. When Tamang got 10,480 votes Subba got 3 thousand 84 votes . Likewise, Chief Minister Tamang defeated SDF candidate Somnath Poudyal, who is also a former minister, by more than 7,000 votes.

The BJP, which has adopted a strategy to strengthen its presence in the northeastern Indian states, became the second largest party in Sikkim by inducting 10 MPs from the SDF. 2 MPs who joined BJP later joined SKM.
Tamang's SKM party was established in 2014. The SDF was formed in 1993 by the Chamling ADF after abandoning the Sikkim Sangram Parishad, the party of former Chief Minister Nar Bahadur Bhandari. Soon after the formation of the party, he reduced Bhandari's party to a minority. After the 1999 election, Chamling got the majority and formed the government. .
Chamlid was the Chief Minister of Sikkim from 1994 to 2019. He is the fifth Chief Minister of Sikkim. He is the first Indian to hold the Chief Minister's chair for the longest time.
