With Meta (Facebook's parent company) officially launching the Facebook monetization service for Nepal, many have shown interest in 'content revenue' on Facebook.

Earlier, Meta had been providing earning facilities only to limited users on an 'invitation basis'. But from August 31, Meta phased out 'in-stream ads', 'ads on reels' and 'performance bonuses' and started 'Facebook content monetization'.

What is Facebook's 'content monetization'?

Meta places advertisements on content such as posts, photos, videos, reels, stories placed on Facebook and gives a portion of the income generated from it to the 'creator' (content creator). That is, the more attractive and engaging the content created by the user, the more the earning potential increases.

What are the necessary criteria for monetization?

The Facebook 'profile' or page to be monetized should be in 'professional mode'. The user should specify the field in which they work. For example, 'digital creator', 'singer', 'actor', 'journalist', etc. should be specified.

Similarly, only original content that complies with Meta's 'Community Standards' should be posted. Accounts that meet these criteria are eligible for 'content monetization'.

How to apply?

Eligible users should go to their 'Professional Dashboard' and click on the 'Monetization' tab. If you are eligible, 'Stars', 'Ads on Reels', etc. will appear. If you are not eligible, 'Not Yet Eligible' will appear. There, options such as 'In-Stream Ads' or 'Ads on Reels' will appear. To proceed with the process, you need to fill in your name, PAN number, and bank SWIFT code according to your citizenship.

Payment in Nepali Bank The biggest relief for Nepali creators is the ease of the payment process. Meta has now provided the facility to link a Nepali bank account directly, ending the previous compulsion to withdraw money through illegal or informal means.

Therefore, monetization may be removed!

Even if Meta does monetization, some rules will be strictly enforced. Content that is violent, hateful, misinformed, or incites communal conflict will not/should not be monetized.

Similarly, if it is found that an attempt has been made to cheat the algorithm by using double reposts and videos of a few seconds, monetization will not be possible. Meta has stated that it will strictly prevent activities such as artificially increasing traffic.
