Security personnel, park staff, and elephants are being used to search for those who went missing after entering the forest of Shuklaphanta National Park to pick mushrooms.
Although the search operation began on Sunday evening, they have not been contacted yet. 'We have mobilized everything from the Nepali Army to the police and park staff to elephants for the search,' said Purushottam Wagle, conservation officer of Shuklaphanta National Park. According to him, locals near the park enter the forest in large numbers after it rains. Due to the rain, no footprints of their movement have been seen. This has caused problems in the search. We suspect that they may be sitting on scaffolding inside the park. We are looking at all the scaffolding. We are also searching by flying a drone." He said that all nine elephants in the park have been mobilized. There are currently nine elephants in the park.
A total of 17 women, including 11 from Bagphanta in Bhimdatta Municipality 19, 3 from Chatahari in Bedkot Municipality 10, and 3 from Beldandi, who went to pick mushrooms on Sunday afternoon, went missing. The women who entered the park from Beldandi have informed the police that they are sitting on a Simal tree, while those who entered the park from Bhimdatta Municipality and Bedkot Municipality have not been contacted yet.
During the rainy season, locals on the edge of the park secretly enter the forest to pick mushrooms. Wagle says that now a large number of them are going secretly. He said that only the park staff and army patrols have not been able to stop them.
