The National Agricultural Modernization Program, Program Implementation Unit Dadeldhura, while reviewing the programs conducted in the fiscal year 2082/83, has stated that potato seeds worth Rs 13.3 million have been sold from the district to the outer districts.

At the report presentation and annual progress review seminar of the local-level pocket development program organized by the office recently, Office Chief Pitambar Basnet informed that the winter and spring potato seeds produced in Dadeldhura have found a good market in the outer districts. According to him, the demand for potato seeds in the district is increasing due to the priority given to quality seed production and marketing.

According to Basnet, the winter and spring potato seed cultivation program has been operated throughout the fiscal year. He said that technical services, grants and various support have been provided to 262 agricultural firms with the aim of increasing potato production, quality seed production and increasing farmers' income. The program is being operated at various local levels of Dadeldhura and Doti.

The office has stated that 27 commercial farmers have been provided seed-related training to make quality potato seed production more systematic. The office says that the training conducted with the technical assistance of the Seed Seed Laboratory Sundarpur, Kanchanpur has attracted farmers towards certified seed production.

The review program also provided information about the priorities of the upcoming fiscal year. The office has made public plans to continue the potato seed breeding program next year, support the construction of necessary infrastructure for production, expand the area of potato cultivation, and run a grant program for the development of entrepreneurship in agriculture.

At the program, Chief Basnet said that even though farmers have increased production, damage caused by wild animals and proper market management of the product are still the main challenges. He says that coordination is being carried out between the local level and the concerned bodies to solve these problems.
