A passenger bus from Dhangadhi to Baitadi met with an accident on Friday in Gairakhan, Patan Municipality of Baitadi, along the Dasharathchand Highway, injuring 23 people. Seven of the injured were referred to Dhangadhi for further treatment as their condition was critical, while the other injured are being treated at Dadeldhura Hospital, police said.

Immediately after the accident, locals, police and other security agencies were deployed for rescue. The injured were taken from the cliff and taken to various health institutions for treatment by ambulance.
According to the police, the passengers on the bus were heading to various places in Baitadi. As soon as the information about the accident was received, a police team from Police Post Khodpe and Area Police Office Patan reached the spot. Local residents also actively supported the rescue operation.
The seriously injured Deepak Bik, 31, of Patan Municipality-6, Janak Prasad Pant, 43, of Patan-8, Ramdatta Pandey, 46, of Patan-8, Siddhartha Bhandari, 11, of Patan-6, bus driver Dinesh Bhat, 31, of Patan-3, Mahon Pant, 31, of Patan-6, and Dhana Pahari, 35, of Patan-6, have been sent to Dhangadhi for further treatment, police said.
The other injured are being treated at Dadeldhura Hospital. According to doctors, most of the injured have injuries to various parts of their bodies, while the condition of some is normal.
The cause of the accident is yet to be ascertained. Although it is initially believed that the bus lost control and fell off the road, the police said that an investigation is underway to determine the exact cause.
Police Inspector Bhuwan Timilsina, Information Officer of the District Police Office, Baitadi, said that detailed details of the accident will be collected, the condition of the injured will be updated, and further investigation into the cause of the accident is underway.
