Police have arrested journalist Khem Bhandari. He was arrested on Thursday morning as per the verdict of the District Court and the Mahendranagar bench of the Dipayal High Court under the crime of insulting and defaming reputation.
According to DSP Tek Bahadur Raut of the District Police Office, Kanchanpur, Bhandari has been presented in court for execution of the verdict after undergoing a medical examination after his arrest.
In the case of 13-year-old girl Nirmala Panta, who was raped and murdered, journalist Bhandari had filed a case in the district court by Kiran Bista, son of the then SP Delhi Raj Bista, claiming that his reputation had been tarnished when he wrote about her in the Manaskhand daily and on social media.
The district court had sentenced journalist Bhandari to one month in prison and a fine of Rs 10,000 on the same case on 16 May 2082. The Mahendranagar bench of the Dipayal High Court also sentenced journalist Bhandari to one month in prison and a fine of Rs 10,000 on 22 Chaitra 2082. Upholding the district's decision, the court imposed a 7-day prison sentence and a fine of Rs. 2,100.
