Dhan Bahadur Khadka of Musetti, Bhimdatta Municipality-9, is feeling increasingly stressed as the monsoon season approaches. He is more concerned about daily necessities and how to treat even if someone falls ill in the village.
The road from Brahmadev to Khalla has been blocked since last winter.

The track from Brahmadev to Khalla under the Mahakali Corridor was opened this year. The old road has also deteriorated during the opening of the track. The newly opened track is not even passable due to landslides and ravines in places.

The people of Khalla and Musetti had been using the road along the Mahakali river since winter. Now, with the onset of the monsoon season, the water level in the Mahakali has started rising. Once the Mahakali floods, the road is also blocked. ‘After that, we will be like under a blockade,’ said Khadka, ‘We will not be able to move from below due to the Mahakali, and there will be a risk of landslides above.’

According to him, the recently opened track is not even passable. It is even more difficult to drive vehicles. ‘After the rains, not only the road but also the electricity service will be disrupted,’ said Harish Saund, another local of Musetti. ‘Until the newly opened track is double-cut, the movement of people from Khalla Musetti will be disrupted.’ According to him, the newly opened track is still not passable.

While opening the track in that area, electricity poles were buried in the middle of the Mahakali River. Those poles are still in the river. There is a risk that the poles will be swept away if the Mahakali floods. After that, the locals complain that they should be deprived of electricity, telephone and roads in all areas.

‘Even with normal rain, the residents of Khalla Musetti are not able to travel,’ said Gagan Singh Karki, Ward Chairman of Bhimdatta Municipality-9. ‘Now there is a road in the Mahakali River, where will we travel when the Mahakali River floods?’ He said that he has requested the local administration and the members of the provincial and House of Representatives to take necessary initiatives in this regard. But he said that no initiative has been taken even when the rains begin.
‘Since the track has been opened in the Mahakali Corridor, it can be made operational by double cutting and placing hummpipes in the rivers,’ said Chairman Karki, ‘Now that is also not possible.’ He said that the concerned bodies are not interested in moving the power line immediately.

There are 3 settlements in the area in Bhimdatta-9. There are about 400 families living in Khalla, Tundikhel and Musetti. Located at the foot of the Chure, about 5 kilometers north of Brahmadev Bazaar on the banks of the Mahakali, the settlement is mostly inhabited by people who have migrated from the far western hills.

The main market where the residents here buy daily necessities is Brahmadev and Tanakpur on the other side of the Mahakali. Now that the road is blocked, there will be problems with daily necessities, including medicine and treatment.

There is only a school up to the basic level in the area. The students here have to reach Brahmadev for their secondary level studies. It seems that their studies will also be disrupted during the rainy season.
