The Far Western Province government has shown interest in the incident of a tempo being pushed off a cliff while clearing forest encroachment in the Chure area of Godavari Municipality-4 in Kailali. Following intense criticism of the working style of forest employees on social media and the media, the Ministry of Industry, Tourism, Forest and Environment has formed a five-member investigation committee to find out the truth behind the incident.
The ministry took a ministerial-level decision on Monday and formed the team under the coordination of Provincial Forest Director Hemraj Bista. Ministry Secretary Dirgha Narayan Koirala said that the committee has been instructed to investigate the facts of the incident and submit a report within the next seven days.
On June 29, a team from the Division Forest Office, Kailali, was seen pushing Dhanadevi Dhami's tempo off a cliff while clearing encroachment in the Godavari Community Forest area. There was a lot of opposition to the forest administration after the video and photos went viral. The government has included administrative, technical and legal experts in the committee to identify the background of the incident and the culprits.
The investigation team includes Assistant Chief District Officer Kiran Joshi of the District Administration Office Kailali, Senior Divisional Forest Officer Janak Padhya of the Divisional Forest Office Pahalmanpur, Mechanical Engineer Dhojraj Joshi of the Transport Management Office, and Legal Officer Vijayraj Ojha of the Ministry. According to Secretary Koirala, the team will draw objective conclusions based on inspection of the incident site, collection of necessary evidence, and statements from the concerned parties.
Earlier, Divisional Forest Office Chief Ramvichari Thakur had claimed to reporters that the tempo was not deliberately toppled. However, as the claim appeared suspicious, the District Police Office Kailali is currently interrogating him and other employees involved.
