A no-confidence motion has been registered against Sudurpaschim Chief Minister Kamal Bahadur Shah in the Congress Parliamentary Party. MPs supporting President Gagan Thapa in the Provincial Assembly have registered a no-confidence motion against Chief Minister Kamal Bahadur Shah, who is the party leader. Shah is close to former Congress President Sher Bahadur Deuba.

Nine members of the parliamentary party, which has 18 members, have signed the motion. The signatories include Whip Geeta Chaudhary, MPs Man Bahadur Rawal, Diwan Singh Bista, Padam Bahadur Shahi, Dammari Mahara, Tulsi Devkota, Bel Bahadur Rana Magar, Lalita Sunar and Junakumari Dani.

The Congress MPs had been demanding the resignation of Chief Minister Shah. They had been threatening to remove him from the party leadership if he did not resign.

Congress MP Diwan Singh Bista confirmed that a no-confidence motion had been registered against Shah. Bista claimed that out of the total 18 MPs of the Congress, 9 will be the majority as MP Prakash Bahadur Deuba has been in the US for months. Bista said that the no-confidence motion was registered against the leader of the parliamentary party with the aim of changing the leadership of the government. Meanwhile, the parliamentary party's chief whip Vikram Singh Dhami said that he was not aware of the registration of the motion.

An MP who registered the no-confidence motion said that it will now be decided in the presence of the party's central members. 'It will probably happen within two to three days,' the MP said, '9 out of 17 will be the majority. Prakash Deuba is unlikely to come from the US. Instead, MPs may join our side.'

There is a Congress-led government in the Far West in collaboration with UML. If Shah is removed as the party leader, he will have to resign from the post of Chief Minister. In that case, the cycle of government reshuffle will begin again. Currently, the Congress has 18 MPs and the UML has 11. 27 MPs are needed to form a government.
