Kailali has emerged as the champion in the 16th President's Running Shield competition held for three days at Tundikhel, Dadeldhura, organized by the Sudurpaschim Province Sports Council. Kailali has won a total of 58 medals, including 32 gold, 17 silver and 9 bronze, and secured the first place.
Kanchanpur came second with 43 medals, including 17 gold, 13 silver and 13 bronze, and Dadeldhura came third with 30 medals, including 6 gold, 7 silver and 17 bronze. Baitadi was fourth with 26 medals including 6 gold, 6 silver and 13 bronze, Darchula was fifth with 12 medals including 3 gold, 2 silver and 7 bronze, Bajhang was sixth with 9 medals including 2 gold, 1 silver and 6 bronze, Bajura was seventh with 26 medals including 11 silver and 15 bronze, Doti was eighth with 16 medals including 4 silver and 12 bronze and Achham was ninth with 12 medals including 4 silver and 8 bronze.
Players from all nine districts of the province participated in the competition that started on Thursday. Competitions were held in various disciplines including volleyball, kabaddi, taekwondo, and athletics.
While Bajhang became the champion in the women's volleyball competition, Kanchanpur won the title in the men's volleyball competition. The results of other disciplines gave Kailali the lead in the overall medal count.
Addressing the closing ceremony, Far West Province's Minister of State for Social Development Saraswati Khadka said that each ward at the local level should allocate a budget for the sustainable development of the sports sector. Describing sports as an important sector linked to youth capacity development, discipline, health and the identity of the province, she emphasized that activities ranging from player production to infrastructure construction should be prioritized from the ward level.
Far West Province Sports Council Member Secretary Lok Bahadur Khadka mentioned that organizing the competition, which was previously limited to Kailali and Kanchanpur, this time in Dadeldhura is an attempt to expand sports throughout the province.
Dadeldhura District Sports Development Committee Chairman Jagat Air said that the competition held for the first time in a hilly district has sent a message of expansion, decentralization and inclusive development of sports activities in the Far West.
The competition, which was held for three days, saw significant participation from players, coaches, sports officials and sports enthusiasts. The President's Running Shield, which was successfully completed in the hilly district of Dadeldhura, is a significant achievement in the sports history of the Far West, according to the organizers.
