Harkaraj Rai, a member of the House of Representatives and Chairman of the Shram Sanskriti Party, who reached Darchula to build a bridge through Shramdan, has laid the foundation stone of a suspension bridge in Dumling, Beas Rural Municipality-2.

While laying the foundation stone of the suspension bridge to be built on the Ghattekhola flowing between Dumling and Kathadumling on Tuesday, Sampang also performed Shramdan for a day on Wednesday. He said that the bridge will be built through collection of donations and Shramdan without spending any money from any government agency.

According to local Makar Singh Budhathoki, a wooden bridge at that place was washed away when a flood occurred in the Ghattekhola between Dumling and Kathadumling seven years ago and eroded the land. He said that they used to build wooden bridges to cross the bridge during the winter and dry seasons, and during the rainy season, they are forced to walk about three kilometers downstream to cross the bridge.

A detailed study report with cost estimate has been prepared based on the demand of the locals to construct a suspension bridge in Dumling. A 65-meter-long and 13-meter-high suspension bridge is being constructed. The cost of this bridge is estimated at Rs 4.865 million.

Krishnananda Badu, Chief Administrative Officer of Beas Rural Municipality, said that the Sampang team has been requested to construct a bridge over the river as students are deprived of going to school during the rainy season due to inability to cross the river.

The locals are happy after Sampang, a member of the House of Representatives, came to the village himself and started the labor donation for the construction of the bridge through labor donation in remote settlements like Dumling, which are far from the state. Mahendra Budhathoki said that the suspension bridge is being constructed to connect the main road where students walk and go to pick yarchagumba and the villages of Katha Dumling, Gothan and Kalju. He also said that they are ready to donate their labor for the construction of the bridge.

Ratansingh Budhathoki said that the people of Dumling need a suspension bridge on the Nepal-India border. Since the road does not reach the village from Nepal, they have to rely on India. He said that daily necessities and essential services have to be supplied from India. The government is constructing the Darchula-Tinker road. Although the road has been opened up to Rangthal in Ward No. 2, there is still two and a half kilometers of road to reach Dumlinggaun.
