An inter-municipal resource sharing mechanism has been formed among various local levels of the Far West with the aim of making disaster risk reduction and emergency response effective. The inter-municipal resource sharing mechanism was formed through a workshop organized by Godavari Municipality of Kailali and in collaboration with various international bodies.

The municipal-level workshop was organized under the ‘Super-Second Phase Project’ with financial support from the European Commission’s Humanitarian Aid Department and support from UNDP, UN Women, UNICEF, Handicap International and run by the Rural Women’s Development and Unity Center (RUDUK) Dadeldhura.

The workshop was attended by the mayors, deputy mayors, chief administrative officers, coordinators of the Forest, Environment and Disaster Management Committees of Shuklaphanta Municipality and Krishnapur Municipality of Kanchanpur and Godavari Municipality, Gauriganga Municipality and Chure Rural Municipality of Kailali. During the

program, discussions were held on the need for resource sharing for disaster management among local levels, its practical implementation measures, and the current challenges and possibilities. The participants concluded that instead of working alone, resource mobilization through a collective mechanism will increase effectiveness during disasters. The

workshop resulted in the formation of an Inter-municipal Resource Sharing Mechanism Committee under the coordination of Godavari Municipality Mayor Birendra Bhatta. The committee will consist of key members from all five participating local levels. The committee has concluded that regular meetings will be held every two months to strengthen disaster management activities, exchange experiences, and prepare a common action plan, strengthen coordination, information exchange, and collaboration among local levels, expand inter-municipal networks, and prepare a joint action plan. This is expected to make disaster preparedness and response more effective.

Amar Saund, Executive Director of the Rural Women's Development and Unity Center (RUDUK), Dadeldhura, said that such a mechanism would make a significant contribution to enhancing the capacity of local levels by institutionalizing integrated efforts in disaster management in the future.
