On the occasion of World Tuberculosis Day, an awareness program has been organized in Dadeldhura to reach the community level. The program organized by the Health Office Dadeldhura in Parshuram Municipality emphasized the need for collective initiatives to reduce and eliminate tuberculosis.
The program organized with the main slogan 'Yes! We will end tuberculosis, the national campaign is our contribution' informed Hari Prasad Bhatta, Vector Control Inspector of the Health Office, that the goal is to expand the campaign from village-toll to ward and municipal levels. According to him, active participation of not only health institutions but also the community is indispensable for controlling tuberculosis.
The program included a detailed interaction on the importance of tuberculosis identification, testing and treatment. Health workers informed the participants about the symptoms of the disease, risk groups and preventive measures and increased awareness.
Symptoms of tuberculosis include prolonged cough, chest pain, fever in the evening, blood in sputum, and weight loss. Keshar Bahadur Saud, head of the health office, said that if such symptoms are seen, one should go to the nearest health facility without delay and get a sputum test done. 'Treatment is effective if the disease is detected in the early stages,' he said.
Similarly, he urged smokers, drug users, and people with chronic respiratory diseases to be especially vigilant as these groups are at high risk of tuberculosis.
Participants in the program also pointed out the need to identify risk groups and conduct targeted programs. According to the health office, such programs have been conducted every year on the occasion of World Tuberculosis Day to reduce tuberculosis. This year's program is said to expand the campaign to the local level and raise awareness in the community.
The program organized in Parshuram Municipality was attended by local public representatives, health workers, and the general public. Participants emphasized the need to fulfill individual and collective responsibility for ending tuberculosis.
