A three-month special campaign will be launched to control the increasing drug use and trade in Doti.
This decision was made at a coordination meeting held with the concerned bodies on Monday organized by the District Administration Office, Doti. The meeting chaired by Chief District Officer Kalpana Ghimire Nepal has decided to launch the campaign in three phases from Chaitra to Jestha.
According to him, in the first phase, emphasis will be placed on awareness raising at the community level. Under this, a program has been decided to conduct interaction in the community, drug prevention classes in schools, signature campaigns and establish a help desk.
In the second phase, legal action will be tightened for drug-related offenses, while in the third phase, special attention will be paid to the rehabilitation of addicts and community support.
The meeting also decided to make the security mechanism more active to control the sale, distribution and consumption of illegal alcohol and drugs by keeping sensitive areas of the district under high surveillance. It is stated that regular monitoring, inspection and checks will also be tightened.
The community-police partnership program will be made effective and youth-targeted awareness programs will be conducted in schools, campuses and communities in collaboration with the local level. It has also been decided to tighten the sale and distribution of drugs like diazepam, pregabalin and tramadol to prevent misuse.
From now on, such drugs will not be sold without a doctor's prescription and all medical and pharmacies will be required to keep records. In addition, it has been decided to conduct emergency inspections at border checkpoints and risk areas, tighten checks by the traffic police to identify drug users, and provide necessary materials through the health office.
The stakeholders participating in the meeting have committed to actively cooperate from their respective fields to make the campaign successful.
