Achham Police has honored Tanka Prasad Dhungana, who has been an election policeman 10 times since the recently concluded House of Representatives elections in 2048 BS.

Dhungana of Mangalsen Garpalika-5, who first became a temporary policeman in the elections held on Baisakh 29, 2048 BS, was 18 years old at the time. Achham Police Chief DSP Om Prakash Khanal said that he was honored because he was selected for the 10th time in the elections announced by the government and deployed in the service since the age of 18.

‘He became an election policeman after becoming a temporary policeman in all the elections since 2048 BS. This is a rare coincidence. This is possible only if there is willpower and desire,' said DSP Khanal, 'He has also become an inspiration for others.'

Dhungana, who first became a temporary policeman in the elections held on Baisakh 29, 2048, served as a temporary policeman in the mid-term elections of 2051 BS, the local body elections of 2054 BS, and the first Constituent Assembly elections of 2064 BS. Similarly, the second Constituent Assembly elections were held in 2070 BS. He became a temporary policeman for the fifth time.

He also became a temporary policeman in the first local level elections after federalism in 2074 BS and the elections of the provincial and House of Representatives. The same sequence was repeated for him in the local, provincial and House of Representatives elections held in 2079 BS.

In the elections held on Falgun 21, he stood as a policeman for the tenth time in the security of the elections. 'He became an election policeman by becoming a temporary policeman due to his own will, desire and desire. It is a pleasure to see that the police organization has also evaluated this,' said Dhungana, 'I have witnessed all the elections held in the past 34 years. I have gained a lot of experience working as a police officer in elections that have been held in all conditions, whether easy or difficult.' He says that he is happy to be under the security of elections in Nepal, which has undergone a multi-party system, the armed rebellion of the then rebel Maoists, and the end of the monarchy and a federal structure.

He considers this election to be the one with the lowest citizen participation among the elections he has been involved in. 'Even on the day of voting, there was no enthusiasm among the voters. Voters seemed disappointed, perhaps due to political instability and declining trust in the parties,' he said, 'Voting day is a festival of democracy. The lack of enthusiasm among voters on that day is unfortunate for democracy.'

He said that in the recently concluded House of Representatives elections, voters were confused about who to vote for and how to vote. "I saw security personnel and staff asking how to vote after receiving the ballot paper at the polling station. I had not seen such a scene in previous elections," he said.
