Former Minister of State NP Saud has urged the government to adopt high alert regarding the situation of Nepali citizens, being sensitive to the security threats seen in the Middle East following the Israeli and American attacks on Iran.
America and Israel have been carrying out airstrikes on Iran since Saturday. Iran has been carrying out airstrikes on Gulf countries that support America. Due to which Nepali workers working there have been affected.
Saud has suggested that the government should be alert to Nepalis in those areas in a timely manner. Expressing concern over the tense situation developing in the Middle East, he said that ensuring the safety of Nepali workers there should be a priority for the Nepali government. On Sunday, former Foreign Minister Saud urged Nepalis working there to adopt the security protocols of the respective countries through social media.
'In this situation, the safety of millions of Nepali workers, brothers and sisters, working in the Middle East is our main priority.' I sincerely request the entire Nepali community to remain informed about the situation and fully comply with the instructions and security protocols issued by the local security agencies,' Saud said. 'In addition, I urge the Government of Nepal, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Nepali embassies in the relevant countries to be on high alert regarding the situation of Nepali citizens there, to take necessary diplomatic initiatives and to make effective arrangements while being sensitive to the safety of Nepali citizens.'
Three people, including a Nepali, have died in the UAE in the Iranian attack. The UAE's Ministry of Defense has issued a statement stating that one citizen each from Nepal, Bangladesh and Pakistan has died. Similarly, 58 people have been injured in the attack. The UAE's Ministry of Defense has stated that the injured include citizens from the UAE, Egypt, the Philippines, India, Pakistan and Iran.
In August 2080, when Palestine attacked Israel, the government airlifted Nepalis there. The then Foreign Minister Saud himself had gone to Israel to bring back the Nepali students. At that time, a wide-body aircraft of Nepal Airlines Corporation had airlifted 254 Nepali students in Israel.
