What you should know

A free family planning camp has been conducted in Dadeldhura. The camp was organized by the Health Office Dadeldhura, in collaboration with Sunaulo Parivar Nepal and in coordination with various local levels within the district.

The camp was held on Falgun 9 at Red Cross Bhawan Dadeldhura, on Falgun 11 at Jogbuda Hospital and on Falgun 12 at Alital Health Post, according to the Health Office Dadeldhura. Permanent family planning services such as vasectomy and mini-lap were provided completely free of charge through the camp.

According to Bhawan Singh Kunwar, Family Planning Supervisor at the Health Office Dadeldhura, 27 people have availed permanent family planning services from the camps conducted at all three places. 12 people availed services from the camp held at Jogbuda Hospital, of which 3 people availed vasectomy and 9 people availed mini-lap services.

6 people have availed services from the camp organized at the Red Cross Bhawan Dadeldhura in the district headquarters. 1 of them had vasectomy and 5 had mini-lap services. 9 people have availed services from the camp held at the Alital Health Post, of which 2 had vasectomy and 7 had mini-lap services, according to the health office.

According to Kunwar, the service was provided through the camp keeping in mind the fact that citizens of remote areas are still deprived of permanent family planning services. ‘Permanent family planning services are a safe, effective and long-term solution,’ he said, ‘Those who could not avail the service due to cost, distance and lack of information have been directly benefited by the camp.’

According to the health office, family planning services play an important role in reducing unplanned pregnancies, improving maternal and child health and strengthening the socio-economic condition of families. Therefore, it is stated that such camps are being conducted with priority in collaboration between government agencies and NGOs.

Stating that awareness regarding family planning is still not sufficient in the district, the Health Office has stated that it will continue to expand services through camps, public awareness programs, and regular health institutions in the coming days.
