A leopard found injured in Baitadi has been rescued after two days.
The leopard was rescued from a creek in Kharkeuda, Sigas Rural Municipality-1 of the district and taken to Dadeldhura, said Bhaktaraj Giri, Chief of the Division Forest Office, Baitadi.
After receiving information about the leopard being found injured on Sunday, a team of technicians was called from the National Trust for Nature Conservation Office, Shuklaphanta, on Monday evening and the leopard was rescued, said Chief Giri.
A team including employees of the Division Forest Office, technical staff of the National Trust for Nature Conservation, and a veterinarian from Dadeldhura rescued the injured leopard. One of the front legs of the leopard found injured has been broken. Chief Giri said that the leopard was brought under control by shooting it.
The injured leopard has been kept in a cage at the Division Forest Office, Dadeldhura, and treatment is ongoing. He said that the leopard will be released into the forest after treatment.
It is estimated that the leopard may have been injured after getting caught in a snare. This year alone, three leopards caught in snare in Baitadi have been rescued, according to the Division Forest Office, Baitadi.
