Candidates from 10 political parties, including one independent, have started campaigning for the upcoming House of Representatives elections in Baitadi.
Except for the candidates from two political parties who have started campaigning, all of them have been found to be using light vehicles without taking permission from the Chief Electoral Officer, violating the code of conduct.
The Office of the Election Code of Conduct Monitoring Officer, Baitadi, has published a notice stating that candidates should use only two two-wheelers, three-wheelers and four-wheelers powered by electric and mechanical power, after taking permission from the Chief Electoral Officer. The notice states that if permission is not taken, it can be considered a violation of the code of conduct.
As of Saturday, only Nepali Communist Party candidate Parmananda Bhatta and Nepali Congress candidate Chatur Bahadur Chand have used vehicles after taking permission from the Chief Electoral Officer, informed Chief Assistant Electoral Officer Bishnu Raj Pant. All candidates in the district, except for the independent candidates, have used vehicles for campaigning.
Chief District Officer Krishna Thapa informed that all candidates have been informed to obtain vehicle permits and monitoring is underway to determine whether they have obtained permits. He also said that action will be taken if vehicles are found to be used without permission.
