Targeting the House of Representatives elections to be held on March 21, political parties and stakeholders in Dadeldhura have made a collective commitment not to use children in any campaign activities.
An 8-point commitment letter was signed on Saturday under the organization of the District Election Office Dadeldhura and in collaboration with the Lu Nibha Child Concern Group on the 'Election Code of Conduct and Child Rights Program'. The Nepali Congress, CPN-UML, Nepali Communist Party, National Independent Party, National Democratic Party and other stakeholders participated in the agreement not to use children in election-related activities. According to the agreement, children will not be used as laborers in processions, rallies, propaganda, pasting or carrying pamphlets and posters.
Similarly, a commitment has been made not to create conflict in the name of political beliefs, not to involve children in riots or fights, and not to carry or carry weapons in election-related activities. The agreement also includes issues such as blocking roads in the name of boycotting voting, confusing voters, mobilizing school student groups, collecting donations, spying, using them as leads or information carriers.
Dharam Singh Air, program coordinator of the Lu Niwa: Child Concern Group Dadeldhura, said that using children in the election process would be a violation of child rights. Advocate Yubaraj Joshi clarified that the law prohibits using children in election campaigning.
Chief District Officer Bishnu Prasad Koirala stated that the administration is ready for the safety of candidates and political parties and warned that legal action will be taken if the code of conduct is violated. Chief Election Officer Arun Kumar Koirala claimed that compliance with the code of conduct in Dadeldhura is satisfactory compared to other districts and expressed confidence that the election process will be more organized with the cooperation of all parties.
