Bhauni village in Purchaudi Municipality-7, Baitadi has been unusually quiet since Thursday evening. The same village, which was buzzing with the joy of a wedding, laughter, and the sound of music until a few hours ago, is now immersed in grief.
The bus accident that took the bride back to the village of Bhauni has left 13 people dead. The bus and jeep that brought the bride from Naunsa village in Bitthadchir rural municipality of Bajhang to pick up the bride stopped at Girjabagar Bus Park in Purchaudi at around 12 noon on Thursday. The bride reached Bhauni village after walking for about 10 minutes from the bus park. The wedding was completed with traditional rituals. The bride and groom returned to the bus park with the bride and returned to the bus park after enjoying themselves. Some locals also accepted the invitation and boarded the bride's bus. The jeep was filled with the bride and groom, some of the bride and the bride's brothers. The bus was very crowded with the bride and locals. The bride's uncle Amarraj Joshi stood behind the door as there was no room in the bus. 'The bus was full,' he said, 'I was standing at the door as some people were getting off on the way.' The situation suddenly worsened when the bus reached Badgaun Ghumti in Purchaudi-7, about 8-9 kilometers from Girjabagar. 'I felt the bus stop a little while on the way,' says Joshi, 'Looking outside, I saw the bus moving backwards towards the roadside. When I realized that the bus was about to fall, I pushed the others standing at the door and jumped out.'
When he jumped, he fell on the roadside. He fell from there and reached a cliff about 15 meters below. By chance, he managed to grab hold of a Uttis tree. 'That tree saved his life,' he says, 'After regaining consciousness, he was taken home.'
But at that moment, he was told the most painful news - the bride's brother Sushil, who had gone with him to pick up the bride, and other relatives are no longer in this world.
'That scene has not left my eyes yet,' says Joshi, 'an incident that should not have happened. I am very sad.'
The bus numbered Suppra 02-001 Kha 1119 of Pawandoot Yatayat met with an accident in Badgaun Ghumti, Purchaudi-7. According to the District Police Office, Baitadi, the death toll in the accident has reached 13.
