When the election approaches, all the candidates in this area make the upgrade of Seti Provincial Hospital an agenda. But after winning the election, everyone forgets about it.

Even as this year's election approaches, some candidates have already started saying that upgrading the Seti Provincial Hospital is their top priority.

During the nomination registration, Prem Ale, the Nepali Communist Party candidate in Kailali 5, has already said that upgrading the Seti Provincial Hospital is his first agenda. On Thursday, Anita Shahi of Gauriganga 2 in Kailali was met at the Seti Provincial Hospital in Dhangadhi. She said that her husband has been undergoing kidney dialysis for the past two years. "My husband has to undergo dialysis twice a week, but it is very difficult to get a turn," she said.

It has been 3 years since Anita's husband started dialysis. After not getting a turn at Seti, she underwent dialysis at a private hospital in Dhangadhi for a year. She got her turn at Seti only eight months after registering her name. ‘A year of private treatment cost more than three lakhs. It would have been better if I had been able to get treatment at Seti from the beginning, but I never got the chance,’ says Anita.

This problem is not only Anita’s, but every patient who needs dialysis is facing it. Hospital information officer Kishor Shrestha says that the problem is due to the high number of patients and lack of resources. According to Shrestha, there are currently 200 patients who need dialysis at the hospital. But there are only 21 equipment.

This shortage at Seti Hospital is not only in dialysis, but everywhere. Patients are in trouble due to lack of beds. This problem in Seti has been going on for years. Earlier in 2074, Congress candidate from this area Arju Rana Deuba and UML’s Naradamuni Rana had also made the upgrading of Seti Hospital their main agenda.

Seti Provincial Hospital, which is receiving more than one lakh patients annually, is the only referral hospital in the far west with only 50 beds. UML candidate Rana had announced that this hospital would be made into 300 beds. Congress candidate Rana, surpassing UML's Rana's announcement, had announced that it would be made into 500 beds. UML's Rana won the election. But he forgot the election agenda of Seti upgrading.

In the 2079 election, some candidates did not make the agenda of this same Seti Hospital their main agenda. The same Rana came to the election field from UML. But he did not prioritize Seti's agenda like in the previous election. Congress candidate Dilliraj Pant was in competition with Rana. Pant also did not put Seti on the main agenda.

Seti Zonal Hospital, which was established as a district hospital in 1997, was upgraded in 2040 BS. With the implementation of federalism, this hospital was brought under the provincial government after the formation of a government at the provincial level.

Patients have high expectations of this hospital, but the hospital is always short of necessary resources . The hospital's medical superintendent, Dr. Hemraj Pandey, himself expresses his dissatisfaction. 'Patients' expectations are unlimited, the poor and needy patients rely on this hospital,' he said.  Dr. Pandey said that they have to continue operating services by complaining to the authorities of the concerned bodies.
