Nepali Congress, which is also leading the Far Western Province government, has said that the latest situation in the Nepali Congress is in a 'watch and wait' situation.

In the Far West, all but one of the Congress' provincial lawmakers are opposed to the special general convention process. Against this backdrop, with the Election Commission's decision on Friday to legitimize the special general convention and the newly elected working committee having begun its work, there is concern about what the provincial lawmakers who are opposed to the special general convention will do and what the provincial government will be like.

Out of the 18 Congress lawmakers in the Far West, 16 are pro-Deuba, one is pro-Shekhar Koirala, and one is pro-Special General Convention. Diwan Singh Bista, who is also the chairman of the Legislation and Provincial Affairs Committee, is pro-Shekhar Koirala, while MP Juna Dani is the only MP who spoke out in the special general convention. Chief Minister Kamal Bahadur Shah and 16 MPs are close to Sher Bahadur Deuba.

Bikram Singh Dhami, the chief whip of the Nepali Congress parliamentary party, says that they are in a 'wait and see' situation. ‘We are standing firm in favor of Sher Bahadur Deuba. But the Election Commission has made a decision. This is not the final decision, there may be other legal processes left,’ said Chief Whip Dhami. ‘We have to see what decision comes from the center. There is no need to immediately divide and conquer.’ There is a provincial government in the far west in partnership with UML.
