UML Bajhang has recommended candidates for the House of Representatives elections to be held on February 21. The UML District Committee meeting has recommended candidates as Central Member Ain Mahar, East District Committee Vice-Chairman Mohanraj Jaishi, and Sudurpaschim Province Committee Member Dhanalakshmi Khatri.
Mahar was also a representative candidate from UML in the 2079 BS House of Representatives election. He was defeated by Congress, Maoist and Socialist alliance candidate Bhanubhakta Joshi.
District Committee Secretary Nayan Bohara informed that the district committee meeting held in Thalara Rural Municipality on Saturday night recommended the candidate through the election process. Bohara said that only three people nominated candidates in the election process, so they were the only ones recommended.
However, some central members of UML have accused the Ain Mahar faction of recommending the candidate unilaterally. 'We were trying until 1 am to recommend by consensus so that there would be no disagreement within the party and everyone's respect would be maintained,' said UML central member Afilal Okheda. 'Despite the possibility of consensus, that path was closed and a forced announcement was made. This has put the party in an awkward situation.'
Similarly, another central member of UML, Asha Bik, has also taken to social media to mock the election process, saying that it started at midnight. She wrote, 'The election was not so necessary overnight in the cold of the winter. How much fear did you have!'
District Committee Secretary Nayan Bohara said that there is no justification for those who want to be candidates but do not participate in the process to express their dissatisfaction. 'If you want to be a candidate, the election process has been opened for everyone to participate,' he said, 'To what extent is it justified to not follow the process and method and express dissatisfaction that it was forced?'
