To preserve the traditional farming system and provide direct relief to farmers, a program has been launched to distribute incentive funds to farmers who raise bullocks.
The plan is to target 200 farmers in all seven local levels of the district, including Parshuram and Amargadhi municipalities, as well as Alital, Bhageshwor, Ajaymeru, Navadurga and Ganyapadhura rural municipalities, and give them Rs 5,000 each.
According to Devraj Bhatta, Chief of the Veterinary Hospital and Animal Service Center and Senior Veterinarian, there have been a lot of applications. Although more than 1,100 applications have been received, some farmers have applied even though they do not keep bullocks. Similarly, applications have also been received from farmers who keep only one bullock. Therefore, the funds will be distributed to the targeted farmers after verifying the authenticity of the applications.
Under the program, the criteria set out required farmers to submit a photo of a bullock, a recommendation from the ward, and proof of involvement in traditional farming. According to Bhatta, priority will be given to low-income farmers, farmers from remote areas, and farmers who earn their living from bullocks.
The Ministry of Land Management, Agriculture and Cooperatives of the Sudurpaschim Province Government has already allocated budget to all districts of the Sudurpaschim region. Bhatta informed that the applications have been collected, the selection process has begun, and the process of distributing funds only to certain farmers is underway.
