Dhanraj Khadka of Daru village, Khaptad Chhanna Rural Municipality-3, had a lot of trouble making phone calls until a month ago.

Nepal Telecom's mobile phone only worked from 9 am to 4 pm. That too, the conversation was unclear due to the weak network.

Due to the lack of network from other service providers, this village, home to about 250 families, remained without communication for the remaining 17 hours. Dhanraj, who runs a homestay in Darugaun at the entrance to Khaptad, had more problems than others due to the lack of telephone network. 'When the phone rang, guests coming to the homestay would inform him that they were coming.' Where did they go after the network went down? I don't know,' he said. 'For how many days did the guests think it was my homestay and stay at someone else's. Later, even the cooked food had to be wasted.'

He said that now not only the phone but also the data has started working 24 hours a day. After Nepal Telecom built a tower near his village and installed 4G internet equipment, people in the village have become easier, Khadka said.

Even in places like Darugaun, where the network works for a few hours a day during the sun and the network does not work at all, after the telecom strengthened and expanded its services, many villages in Bajhang have become easier to communicate with telephones and local residents are also connected to the internet service. After last Tihar, new towers with 4G service have been added to the remote village of Lokand in Talkot Rural Municipality-4 and Sunikot in Ward 1 of Bajhang.

Similarly, in Chhabis Pathibhara 4, Jhuteda, Kailas Pimi in Jayaprithi Municipality-1, Koteli in Ward 5, and Surma Rural Municipality, after the construction of new towers, it has become much easier for locals to communicate with telephones and the internet. 'If you had to make a phone call, you had to walk for one or two hours and look for a place to pick up the network. If there was any problem at night, you had to take four or five friends and go through the forest to reach the place where the network was picked up,' said Bhim Bohra of Surma Rural Municipality, 'It has become much easier now after the tower was built.' The internet is also working inside the house.'

Nepal Telecom has stated that work is underway to build new towers and increase the internet capacity in the villages of Bajhang where the network is weak.'

Nepal Telecom Regional Office has stated that after installing high-capacity 4G equipment in the towers located in Parakatne of Thalara Rural Municipality, Kandel of Chhabispathivera and Deulek of Bitthadchir Rural Municipality in Bajhang, the internet speed has also become faster than before.'

'The tower with an earlier capacity of 800 MHz is now connected to 1800 MHz equipment,' said Tilak Dhami, engineer at Nepal Telecom Regional Office Attariya, 'This has eliminated the problem of 4G running only on mobile phones of certain companies. The internet speed has also improved.'

He said that the towers under construction in Dharan Bazaar in Durgathali Rural Municipality-5 and Bitthadchir Rural Municipality-5 in Sunkuda will also come into operation within the next week.

He said that once these towers are operational, the accessibility and effectiveness of telephone and internet services will further increase. 'After these two towers are operational, many villages in Bajhang that previously did not have telephone and internet will come into communication,' he said.
