Dewan Singh Saud, 52, of Sankot, Khal, Shivnath Rural Municipality-2, Baitadi, has been found dead.
Saud, who had been missing since Wednesday evening, was found dead in a stream below a cliff near a ravine on Friday afternoon, said Shivnath Rural Municipality Chairman Karna Saud. The chairman and the deceased Saud are villagers. Relatives of the deceased suspect that he was murdered as the incident was suspicious.
How was Saud's body found ?
Saud had gone to a shop near the village around 4 pm on Wednesday to get meat from home. When he did not return home until late in the evening, the family members went to the shop and questioned the shopkeeper. The shopkeeper had said that the deceased Saud had drunk alcohol at the shop and walked home.
The family members had searched until late at night but could not find him, so they filed a search warrant at the Sarmali police station on Thursday. Although the police had issued a search notice with a photo of the deceased, the family members, relatives and himself, including the ward chairman, had searched all day but could not find him, said Saud, the rural municipality chairman.
He said that on Friday afternoon, shepherds found Saud's body in a stream near the house of the same shopkeeper who had consumed alcohol, opposite the road leading to his house. 'His body was found on the opposite side of the road leading to Dewan's house,' he said. 'Even though he had drunk alcohol, why did he go the opposite way instead of going home? The incident is suspicious.' He said that the deceased had injuries on his face.
Immediately after receiving the news of the body being found, a police team under the command of a police inspector from the district was heading to the scene of the incident, said Police Inspector Baldev Badu, Information Officer at the District Police Office, Baitadi. He said that further investigation into the incident would be conducted after the team reached the scene.
