Baitadi Chief District Officer (CDO) Punya Bikram Poudel has reached the house of Gen-G martyr Deepak Saund of Shivnath Rural Municipality-2 Sharmali to offer consolation after three and a half months.
Deepak, a 19-year-old who had passed the 12th standard and was planning to prepare for a foreign job while studying, was shot dead in Kalimati, Kathmandu, during the Gen-G movement on Bhadra 24. The victim's family complained that although the government had provided relief money in the bank, no one from the government or political parties had come to comfort them. The District Administration Office had also deposited a lump sum of Rs 1.5 million in the account of martyr Deepak's father as relief and funeral expenses for those who died in various places including Kathmandu during the Gen-G movement on Bhadra 23 and 24. CDO Poudel visited Deepak's house on Wednesday and met his family. After the government declared him a martyr, he said that he would send a letter to Deepak's family. CDO Poudel, who went to his house to console him, said, “We give priority to his family members for employment in the district,” he said, “We also went to his house and found out about his family.” The cabinet meeting on Kartik 17 had declared 45 people including Deepak as martyrs.
When the CDO came to his house after three and a half months to understand their situation, martyr Deepak’s father Kalu Saund said that it felt like the government was also looking at them. During the meeting, the Prajio also handed over a photo frame with the names of the Gen-G martyrs who were martyred in the protests on Bhadra 23 and 24.
