270 people donated blood in a massive blood donation program organized by the office of Dhangadhi Sub-metropolitan City-5 on Monday. According to Dharani Pant, head of the Provincial Blood Transfusion Center, 48 women and 222 men donated blood in the program.

About 200 of the participants donated blood for the first time, while the remaining 70 had donated blood before. According to ward chairman Gajendra Shahi, the program was organized keeping in mind the shortage of blood in Dhangadhi. Chairman Shahi said that he was excited by the high participation of the youth and said that he was able to collect such a large number of blood in about one and a half weeks of preparation. “We were successful in explaining the importance of blood donation in saving human lives,” he said.

Sudurpaschim Province’s Blood Donation Goodwill Ambassador Deepak Upadhyay said that all the misconceptions related to blood donation have been broken. He says, “There is a wrong belief that people should not donate blood or that if they donate, they will become weak. About 200 people have broken this misconception by donating blood for the first time in today’s blood donation program.”

Students, employees and locals from Aishwarya Multiple Campus, Kailali Multiple Campus, Khaptad College, Sahara Hotel Management, SAI MA Institute and other institutions participated in the program. Minister of State for Social Development Saraswati Khadka was present on the occasion. Nisarga Hospital, Nepal Red Cross Society, AG Health Industries Pvt. Ltd. and other organizations supported the program.

Narendra Bhatta of Nepal Red Cross Society Kailali said that the active participation of 46 female blood donors was inspiring. According to him, about 95 percent of the blood donors are new blood donors in the age group of 18-25 years. He said that this historic blood donation is not only about collecting blood but also a strong sign of hope and faith in saving lives.
