Janaki Mahara of Surnaya Rural Municipality-4 is having trouble deciding where to go after her husband's funeral. A few days ago, her husband, 29-year-old Naresh Mahara, died in a mini-truck accident.

According to tradition, Janaki lacked the financial means to do her husband's chores. Her relative Suresh Mahara said that after completing her 10-day kiria, Janaki had financial problems and now she is coming out. Due to financial constraints and lack of a home of her own, Janaki has been living in the house of her relative Daljit Mahara.

Janaki said that since her husband had sold all his property before his death, she had no place to live as a kiria and had been living in a relative's house. She said that her husband would beat her day and night and she could not bear it and went to her mother. 'I went to the women's safe house in Patan after he started hurting her,' she said. 'When I was in Patan, he sold all his house and land here.'

Hazari Mahara, a relative of the deceased, said that no matter how much they explained to her, she would not listen. 'He would always drink alcohol, fight, and scold her for not selling his property,' she said. 'After finishing everything, he left, now how will this poor person raise his children? They didn't even leave a house to live in.'

Janaki's in-laws have already died. The deceased Naresh is the only son. Without a house to live in and land to earn a living, the deceased Mahara's 10-year-old son, two daughters aged 8 and 6, and his wife are left in a state of despair.

After learning about Janaki's condition, stakeholders including Chief District Officer Punya Bikram Poudel and Fabric Bank Coordinator Mahesh Bhatt have provided some relief money. Surnaya Rural Municipality Chairman Amar Kunwar also said that the municipality will provide assistance.
