The Veterinary Hospital and Animal Services Expert Center in Patan, Baitadi has been without a veterinarian for a year.
The position of a veterinary doctor at the expert center has been vacant for a year. The expert center has been without a doctor since last year after contract veterinarian Vishal Pathak was nominated for a permanent position in Karnali Province in November.
The expert center under the Ministry of Land Management and Agricultural Cooperatives of the Sudurpaschim Province government has not been able to fill the position for a year despite the absence of a veterinarian.
Gumani Dutt Pant, head of the Veterinary Hospital and Animal Service Expert Center, Patan, said that due to the absence of a veterinarian at the expert center, animal health-related specialist services have not been provided. ‘Animal health services such as identification and diagnosis of animal diseases, health certification, lab, surgery, diagnosis have been affected,’ he said. ‘Since it is an expert center, one doctor is required regularly.’
He said that due to the absence of such a doctor, goats, buffaloes, and cattle leaving the district could not be certified for export and import. The Veterinary Hospital and Animal Service Expert Center, which has a staff of 12 including veterinarians, currently has only two staff members, one animal development officer and one technician.
