When importing goods from India and other countries, different customs valuations are done. This used to lead to under-billing and over-billing. But from now on, customs will be able to value the goods online.
The online customs valuation system, which started in Biratnagar, was also launched at the Kanchanpur Customs Office on Monday. Revenue Secretary of the Ministry of Finance Bhupal Baral launched the online valuation system.
‘There have been many improvements in customs physically and systematically compared to the past,’ said Secretary Baral, ‘This is a milestone for good customs governance, the digitalization of customs has begun.’ He said that this will solve the problem of revenue leakage due to undervaluation. ‘This system will end the trend of valuing materials in a mixed manner,’ said Secretary Baral.
Along with the Kanchanpur Customs Office, this system has been launched at Kailali, Nepalgunj, Bhairahawa, Birgunj and Biratnagar Customs. Director General of the Customs Department Shyam Prasad Bhandari said that after the system is implemented, the correct bill of lading and transaction value will have to be presented. He said that the inspection will now be done after evaluating the materials including the expenses incurred when they arrive at the customs point while importing.
