Traffic has been disrupted since Thursday morning after the Chainpur-Taklakot road was washed away. The road in Sunikot, Talakot Rural Municipality 1, was washed away.
The road, located about eight kilometers north of the Bajhang district headquarters, has been blocked in the northern part of the district. Some nearby houses have also been put at risk after the road collapsed.
'The road had started sinking a little during the monsoon. Now it has completely collapsed,' said Birendra Yadav, head of the Seti Lokmarg North Section (Chainpur-Taklakot) Road Office, 'About eight meters of the road has collapsed. It is seen to have collapsed from about seven meters below the surface.'
He said that work has already started for temporary repairs and the road could be operational by Friday. He said that a study is underway as a large wall needs to be built for permanent construction.
Traffic is operated for 40 kilometers of this road connecting Bajhang with Taklakot in China. Locals of Talkot and Saipal rural municipalities and tourists visiting the Saipal area use this road .
