Although there was enthusiasm for expanding technical education in the villages of Achham until a few years ago, technical education has now been discontinued in most schools.

Many secondary schools in the district had started teaching subjects like civil engineering, agriculture and animal science after getting recognition from the CTEVT (Council for Technical Education and Vocational Training). The number of students staying in the villages and getting skill-based education was also increasing for a few years after the program started. But now, those programs have been closed in many schools. There is also a shortage of students in schools where the program is being run.

Janakalyan Secondary School in Sanphebagar, which was teaching Diploma in Civil Engineering and Diploma in Geometric Engineering after getting recognition from the CTEVT, has closed both programs from this year, said principal Tek Bahadur Saud.

He said that the technical program had to be closed due to the lack of qualified teachers and the unwillingness of instructors who could teach technical subjects in remote areas. 'CTEVT only gives recognition.' The school was having trouble managing resources,' said Principal Saud, 'due to the lack of budget for equipment and laboratories, there were problems with training and practical education. The decline in the number of students also weakened these programs. Finally, the program had to be closed.'

He said that the school was in trouble due to lack of support for experimental equipment, field trips and training for technical education. 'Good students do not want to study here. They do not come from outside to study. Instructors are not available on time and even if they are available, they cannot be paid,' he said.

Harish Bhatta, head of the education department of Safebagar Municipality, said that technical subjects have also been stopped in Suryachandra Secondary School, Prabha Dhamkot Secondary School, Mahendra Secondary School and Betalmanda Secondary School within Safebagar Municipality.

Nandeshwari Secondary School in Mellekh Rural Municipality-6, which was accredited by CTEVT and is teaching Diploma in Civil Engineering, has also stopped the program. According to the school's principal, Prithvi Bahadur Rawal, the school, which started teaching technical subjects in 2076 BS, stopped teaching technical subjects two years ago due to lack of instructors and students, lack of resources, etc. According to him, 24 students came to enroll in the first year of the school, 17 in the second year, 8 in the third year, and 6 in the fourth year. 'We were also taking admissions until the 2080 BS academic session. Only 6 students came. After that, the program was stopped,' said Principal Rawal.

He said that the school was unable to conduct classes due to the unwillingness of instructors who could teach technical subjects in remote areas. According to him, this has led to a situation where the technical education program cannot be sustainable.

‘Lack of budget to increase technical subjects is another problem . The decrease in the number of students is also another reason . As students from villages go to the city to study, the enrollment in technical classes was not sufficient . This hindered the schools from running the program,’ said Prof. Rawal, ‘There is also weakness in the monitoring of CTEVT . The schools had to face many problems due to the lack of permission and support in the initial stage, and then continuous monitoring and support.’

Jalpadevi Secondary School in Kamalbazar Municipality, where the Pre-Diploma in Agriculture (Plant Science) program is taught, has also been closed in Dhakun, Kalikeshwari Secondary School in Turmakhad Rural Municipality. Saraswati Secondary School in Bannigadhi Jayagarh Rural Municipality, where the diploma level program in agriculture is taught, has also been closed .
