A journalist has been beaten up for writing about the unrest at Riluchaur Secondary School in Mashta Rural Municipality-6. Journalist Anil Bohara, working for the Good Governance Nepal Network, was attacked and stoned at his home by some people on Wednesday night.

Bohara has injuries on his head, back, waist and face. He has said that locals Birjan Bohara, Bikash Bohara and others beat him up. Anil alleges that he was beaten up and stoned on the plan of ward chairman Shivraj Bohara of the same ward.

Police said that Birjan Bohara was also injured when Unil's family members attacked him in retaliation after Anil was beaten up. He is undergoing treatment at the district hospital.

Last week, journalist Bohara had broadcast a video news report about locals engaging in sexual activities inside Riluchaur Secondary School and youth consuming drugs including marijuana. Some youths are seen consuming marijuana inside the school room in his video. The video showed condom shells, used condoms and playing cards scattered around the classroom.

A few days after the news was broadcast, Ward Chairman Bohara had also attempted to assault Anil at a parents' meeting organized by the school. 'Since the news was published, I have been threatened with death and sent gangs of boys around my room in Chainpur, so I could not stay there and came home,' Anil said. 'While I was having dinner at home, they suddenly surrounded me and pelted me with glass and stones.'

Ward Chairman Bohara said that he had no involvement in the incident. He said that the altercation took place during a general argument in the village and that another person, Birjan, was injured when Anil's father attacked him. 'For the past few days, the atmosphere in the village has been tense, saying that he himself tried to kill me by making a live video,' he said. 'I have heard that there was a minor altercation yesterday evening. Birjan Bohara is injured and in the hospital. That's all that happened.'

The District Police Office has informed that the police were sent at night as soon as they received information about the incident and that work is underway to understand the truth.  Initial information is that Anil was injured when the ward chairman's family attacked journalist Bohara while he was eating, and Birjan Bohara was injured when Anil's family retaliated, said District Police Office Chief Khagendra Dhamala.
