Singer Sudhir Jairu has been elected as the president of the National Folk and Duo Song Foundation, Dadeldhura. The foundation's fourth district convention and seventh annual general meeting held at the bus park in Dadeldhura on Saturday elected a new working committee under the leadership of Jairu.
The convention has unanimously formed a new 15-member working committee. Ramesh Malla has been elected as the first vice-president, Bhan Bahadur BK (Bhaskar) as the second vice-president, Mamta Bhatta as the women's vice-president, Dhan Bahadur Thapa Magar as the secretary, Dharma Bohara as the treasurer, Suryaksh Dhami as the joint secretary and Chandra Tiruwa as the co-treasurer. The members include Ritu Thagunna, Tara Chhetri, Arjun Chataut, Usha Punamagar, Surat Tamoli, Khagraj Shah and Mohit BK.
The convention has discussed the role of the foundation in the preservation and promotion of the original art, culture and folk traditions of the Far West and set the future course of action. The chief guest, Amargadhi Municipality Mayor Dilliraj Joshi, praised the role played by the foundation in the preservation of folk and dohori songs that carry the original identity of the Far West and urged for continuity. The outgoing president of the foundation, Dhaniram Giri, reviewed the activities and achievements during his tenure and expressed gratitude to everyone who helped make the convention a success.
Newly elected President Jairu pledged to work for the rights and interests of folk and duet song creators during his tenure and pay special attention to identifying, protecting and promoting new talent.
