Online fraud has increased in the Himalayan district of Dolpa. While there was only one complaint in the previous fiscal year, complaints are now coming in continuously.

The District Police Office, Dolpa, has been targeted by the police after complaints of online fraud using various lures started coming in. Ruk Bahadur Khadka, Deputy Superintendent of Police at the District Police Office, Dolpa, said that three complaints regarding online fraud have been received this week alone. According to him, citizens of the urban areas are now very aware, which is why it seems that ordinary people living in rural areas are being targeted by online fraud.

‘According to the three complaints received by the police, it seems that a total of four lakh rupees have been defrauded, including students and employees. In the previous fiscal year alone, there was a complaint of online fraud of one million rupees, which we have sent to the CIB,’ he said.

‘Fraud is being committed using various lures using social media like WhatsApp, Viber, and Facebook, and ordinary people are being targeted. Such types of fraud are new in Dolpa.’

DSP Khadka urged the district residents to be aware as such incidents using the internet are increasing day by day in Dolpa. He said that discussions will be held with stakeholders in the district to prevent such incidents from recurring in the coming days and awareness will be raised through all police units.
