A young man who was injured in an assault by local youths, including a Nepali Army soldier, has died.

Abhishek Thapa, 20, of Jayaprithi Municipality-5, who was beaten up by a group of local youths, died on Monday.

Police said he was beaten up on Sunday night over a dispute over a volleyball tournament held in the village last year.

Police said he was beaten up by Prachanda Thapa, a soldier working in the Indradhwaj Battalion of the army in Sindhupalchowk, Anil Thapa of the same village, and Khagendra Joshi.

Abhishek, who was seriously injured in the beating, was taken to Dhangadhi after he could not be treated in Bajhang. Nirsag Hospital in Dhangadhi declared him dead on Monday. 'It seems that the beating was due to a dispute over volleyball last year and other old grudges,' said DSP Khagendra Dhamala, Chief of the District Police Office. 'The deceased was seriously injured when he was hit on the head with a stick.' He informed that the police have arrested all three people who assaulted him and are investigating.

Relatives of the deceased Abhishesh, who was studying in Kathmandu, informed that he had returned home for the Tihar holidays.
