Out of the prisoners who escaped from Kanchanpur Jail, 311 have returned so far. According to the prison administration, 5 women and 296 men have returned till Sunday.

"Prisoners are continuing to return," Jail chief Ram Dutt Joshi said.

There were 478 prisoners including 26 women in Kanchanpur Jail. All but 21 escaped on August 24. 

One of the escapees was found dead at home. Joshi said that Padmaraj Bhatt of Beldadi Rural Municipality, who was sentenced to 5 years and 6 months imprisonment in a drug case, was found dead. But Joshi said that no official information about this has been received.  According to

Joshi, Shailu Singh who escaped from Darchula Jail and Puran Rana who escaped from Central Jail also came here. Both of them were transferred from Kanchanpur Jail. They are local here .
