The government of Far West Province has decided to make Sunday a public holiday. According to Amod Dahal, Acting Secretary of the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Law, the holiday has been announced on the occasion of Atthari festival.

According to the decision of the Council of Ministers meeting held on July 19, this holiday will be implemented. The Tharu community has been celebrating the Atthari festival with great pomp on the first Sunday after Krishna Janmashtami.

On this day, it is a tradition for brothers to pray for the long life of their sisters. It is customary for men especially to fast and perform pujas in the evening and celebrate festivals with their families.
