The midday meal program in Dadeldhura community schools is becoming effective. The program aimed at Raithane dish at mid-day meal has helped to increase the declining number of students in the school.

In Dadeldhura, two municipalities and five rural villages, seven local level community schools have arranged for midday meals.

Manorath Pant, headmaster of Amargadhi municipality-11 Litirigaon in Dadeldhura, said that mid-day meals are served in schools up to the basic level. There are 126 students from Child Development to Class 8 in this school, which teaches up to Class 8. According to the government's policy, there is a provision to include children from child development to class 5 in the mid-day meal program, but they are serving mid-day lunch to students up to class 8, Pant said. According to Principal Pant, to maintain the stability of the students, lunch is given to all the students in order to maintain the stability of the students. Devaki Air (Bohra), the principal of Shree Bhimdatta Private School located in Alital rural municipality-4, said that the midday meal program has helped the students to sustain themselves. She said that migration has also affected the number of students. Now the number of families has decreased here, which has also affected the school. However, the midday snack has helped the children to stay in school. She also said that local produce and fruits are being served as midday snack.

In the school, foods such as eggs, fruits, green beans, vegetables, and kheer are given daily. Vasudev Bogti, headmaster of Bhubaneswari Mavi Hartola, located in Alital Rural Municipality-1, said that with the aim of providing healthy and nutritious lunch, the school is managing lunch according to the schedule in collaboration with local resources and community. "We have also inspected the chamenagriha where the lunch is made to make it clean and tidy," he said.

Rajendra Prasad Chataut, the principal of Manilek High School in Chipur, Ajaymeru Rural Municipality, said that the midday meals given to children from Kindergarten to Class 5 will also help in their physical and mental growth. He says that local Raithane products are included in the lunch. According to him, the school has been providing lunch at the rate of Rs. 15 per student per day, but from this financial year, the rural municipality has provided funds at the rate of Rs. 20 per student. According to him, the municipality gives money every three months to reach the students.

The education branch of Ajaymeru rural municipality has informed that an amount equivalent to 44 lakhs is provided annually to schools for the lunch program. According to the branch officer Hariprasad Pant, the rural municipality has made a plan for the mid-day meal program as well as for improving the educational quality. Regarding the fact that the number of students is also decreasing due to increasing migration, he said that it is a challenge to increase the number of students in public schools.

Almost all municipalities have insisted on including local products in lunch. Umeshraj Upreti, headmaster of Navadurga Mavi in Chilfi of Navadurga rural municipality, said that the midday meal program was effective. He said that local products such as soybeans are included in the lunch. He said that the budget provided by the local government is being spent on lunch. He also told that a cook from the school management committee was entrusted with the management of midday meals.

Dil Bahadur Dhami, principal of Janata Pravika in Ganyapadhura rural municipality-3, said that 60 students are currently studying from Kindergarten to Class 5. He said that the lunch provided in the school has helped to sustain the students. He said that the midday meal program in public schools has provided more support for parents who cannot send their children to institutional schools.

In Bhageswar Rural Municipality-3, Bhageswar Basic School in Satigaon teaches only up to class 5. The number of students is low. There are only 20 students in the school. According to Ashish Bhat, the principal of the school, the number of students has also decreased due to migration. The number of students has decreased due to increased migration towards the district headquarters and Terai. He said that even though the mid-day meal provided in the school was limited, the students were sustained. According to him, there is concern that schools will become vacant as migration increases.

According to Khadak Mahatka, Head of Education Development and Coordination Unit Dadeldhura, the midday meal program implemented in government schools has been effective in maintaining student enrollment and attendance. He said, "Monitoring is done in schools under the leadership of municipalities." The impact of this program has been seen in the schools that have been monitored so far. Besides, the kitchen for making lunch is also found in orderly condition.
