In Baitadi, the corn crop is ripening in Pakhobari at the moment. Somewhere the corn is about to ripen, somewhere the snails are growing. Farmers here are worried after the herd of wild boars came and damaged the ripening corn crop. Farmers here regard maize as the most hunger-satisfying crop.
In other years, the boars came and ate in the fields at night, and this year, the farmers became worried. Madan Saund, a farmer of Shivnath-1, who had been sitting on the ground waiting for wild boars to come to the corn field all night, said that a herd of wild boars came and destroyed the corn.
'We all went to our work to see if it would come in the afternoon, at that time the herd came and destroyed the ditch,' he said.
This year, after the wild boars that hide in the forest during the day and eat the crops at night have started coming during the day, the farmers have started to stay in the fields at night.
In some places of the district, snails have just started to attack corn crops. Farmers said that in some places they are preparing to ripen corn. In this season, millet, maduro, kaguno, bajur and sometimes rice are planted along with the corn crop. Boars don't eat other crops, they break them by crushing them.
Farmers here are shocked after the wild boar destroyed the corn grown without the flow of sun, water, hunger and thirst. Not only in Madan, but also in other parts of the district, wild boars have damaged the corn crop.
Farmer Chandrawati Chand of Pancheswar-2 has the same complaint. "I was sitting in the cornfield all night long to chase away the boars." When I went home to drink tea in the morning, a herd of wild boars came and killed her,' she said, 'Even though I was on duty at night, I could not save the wild boar.' From one house to another house and from one hill to another hill is not visible . Although they are eating corn in the lower jaws, they cannot be seen from the upper jaws . "He runs from here to another field, from there he enters the other field," said local Lakshman Chand, "people go to the corn field and get lost. We are driving away the boars by shouting or playing drums." "Because of the boars, we have not been able to live in the house," he said, "we are living in the field now, we will be able to live in the house only after the corn comes in."
In Swarad Kshatra district (Melauli Municipality, Pancheswar and Shivnath Rural Municipality) alone, leopards have killed 26 people during 7/8 years, according to the data of Division Forest Office Baitadi. Farmers here do not even care about leopards to protect their corn crops from wild boars. All the families of the village have their turn to stay at night.
Fearing the leopard, the maize sleeping inside the house is destroyed by the wild boar . Apart from that, Bhatt said that she stayed awake all night to see if the leopards would not come and the corn crop could be protected from wild boars if she made a noise.
Bharat Prasad Bhatta, Divisional Forest Officer of Divisional Forest Office, Baitadi, said that it was heard that Badel has damaged the corn crop, but no official application has been made for compensation.
Chief Bhatt said that according to the nature of the damage, compensation will be given up to 10,000 rupees. Although the farmer's corn crop has been damaged by wild boars, the local level agriculture branch has not shown any interest.
