Tagging of Mula (Minu Early), Rayo (Khumal Red Leaf) and Kerau (Sikkim Local) seeds is taking place in the process of scientific verification of seeds.
Vegetable Germplasm Enhancement and Seed Production Center has confirmed that the original seeds produced in the financial year 2081/082 have been verified and tagged with the technical support of the Seed Production Laboratory Sundarpur Kanchanpur. Tari Singh Thakurathi, head of the
office, said that certification was done to encourage farmers to use seeds that are reliable, of good quality and produce good results. Thakurathi said that this is the first time such an action has been taken to promote local seed production.
The Vegetable Germplasm Enhancement and Seed Production Center at Dadeldhura has also started the production of hybrid seeds of creation tomato and madhu cucumber. This center was established in the year 2043 with the purpose of producing original seeds and was producing original seeds in the past years as well.
With the process of certifying local products and bringing them to the market starting this year, it is believed that quality seeds will be easily available to farmers.
