The number of adult tigers in Shuklaphanta National Park has reached 43. Last year, the number of tigers found during monitoring from November 28 to December 10 was announced on Tuesday on the occasion of Tiger Day.

According to the park office, 40 tigers including 21 males and 19 females have been caught on camera, while 3 tigers have been confirmed based on analysis, and the result has been released that there are a total of 43 tigers here . In the previous year's count, 44 adult tigers including 24 males and 17 females were seen.

"The number of tigers is also good here due to proper management of food species and habitat," said Chandrashekhar Chaudhary, senior conservation officer of the park, "The condition of food species is better than other protected areas in the country." The density of food species here is 146 per square kilometer.

A national census of tigers is conducted every 4/4 years . A census conducted in 2022 showed that there are 36 adult tigers here. Monitoring is being done every year in the areas where the number has decreased and there is a risk of hunting. It also helps in habitat management along with the conservation strategy .

'Tiger migration has been good compared to the past, now tigers are present in all areas of the park,' said Lakshmiraj Joshi, head of the National Nature Conservation Fund's Shuklaphanta Conservation Program, 'In the previous year's monitoring, tigers were seen only in the western region of the park, now there is a good presence in the eastern region as well.' He said that the number of damru is also good compared to the past.

The park was divided into different grids of 2 x 2 square kilometers and tigers were monitored by placing one/a pair of automatic cameras in each grid. This time the park has been divided into 100 grids and 200 cameras have been installed. The results were prepared by analyzing more than 8,000 photos taken by those automatic cameras.

Tiger Day is celebrated on Tuesday with the slogan 'coexistence and income generation, behavior change for tiger conservation'. On the occasion of Tiger Day, the park has released the monitoring results of last year and has also cleaned around the East-West Highway in Arjuni area.
