On the occasion of Gurhi, an important festival of the Tharu community, the local levels of Kailali have given a public holiday on Tuesday.

Dhangadhi sub-metropolitan city of Kailali, Godavari, Tikapur, Gauriganga, Bhajani, Ghodaghodi municipalities have given leave. Similarly, Kailari and  Janaki Rural Municipality also gave a holiday on the occasion of the same festival.

Gurhi festival is the main festival of Tharu community. According to traditional customs and practices, the Tharu community celebrates Gurhi in the evening on the day of Nag Panchami, with the belief that disease will be removed from the village and peace and harmony will increase.
