Bajura accident: Unpaved road, 21 passengers in a pickup van with capacity of 5 people

A pick-up van accident occurred on Thursday morning in QD village while coming from QD of Bajura's Himali Rural Municipality to Dhulachaur, the center of the rural municipality. Three people died and 18 were injured in the accident.

Seven people who were seriously injured were rescued by a helicopter of the Nepalese army and taken to Surkhet for treatment. Among the other injured, 10 people are being treated at Kolti Hospital and one person is being treated at Kavadi, police said.

According to District Police Office Bajura, 76-year-old Bijoura Rokaya, 75-year-old Bazhakala Rokaya and 35-year-old Juneli Rokaya have died. While coming to Kavadi from Qdi village, B.P. 03-001 J 0338 Bolero pick-up van number 7 seriously injured people have been taken to Surkhet for further treatment by Nepalese army helicopter. 10 other people who were injured in the accident are being treated at Kolti Hospital. Police said that Amm Rokaya, Bazhadhan Rokaya, Bhadairi Rokaya, Bhaijit Budha, Askali Budha, Dashrath Budha, Chate Rokaya, Sajan Rokaya, Navraj Budha and Bharat Rokaya are undergoing treatment at Kolti Hospital. Another one of the injured, Dal Bahadur Chandara, is being treated at the local Kawadi, Police Inspector Chaudhary said.

"Preliminarily, it is estimated that the jeep accident happened due to excessive load," said police inspector Chowdhury, "The jeep fell from the top gear to the bottom gear." The track was opened last November. Since even the unpaved roads were not organized, regular jeeps did not ply. 

Raj Bahadur Bhandari, chief administrative officer of the rural municipality, says that the rural municipality is in the process of road construction and warned not to operate jeeps. In the same situation, 21 local people from QD were going to reach Dhulachaur village center on Thursday in a Bolero jeep with five passenger seats.

They paid a fare of 700 rupees per person for a distance of about 20 km from Qdi to Dhulachaur. According to the rural municipality, they were coming to the bank in Dhulachaur for various jobs including social security allowance.
