In Dadeldhura, the joint market has been monitored 30 times during a year. In order to protect the consumer's health and consumption rights, the market has been regularly and casually monitored in Dadeldhura.
Sudeep Mishra, Information Officer and Administrative Officer of District Administration Office, Dadeldhura, said that under the leadership of District Administration Office, the market was monitored 30 times in the last financial year 2081/82 alone and during the monitoring, around 87 thousand 575 rupees worth of expired and unusable materials were destroyed.
Food Technology and Quality Control Office, Domestic and Small Industries Office, Internal Revenue Office, Federation of Nepalese Journalists and related local level representatives participate in joint market monitoring under the leadership of Assistant Chief District Officer. During the
monitoring, some drug stores and other stores are found to be selling expired, substandard and food and grocery store products that exceed the level. Sabitra Pun, coordinator of the team and assistant chief district officer, said that the purpose of market monitoring is not only to punish traders but also to maintain discipline in the market and guarantee consumer rights. According to him, activities such as expired goods, unregistered businesses, not posting the price list and overcharging were found during the monitoring.
Generally, although there is a provision for monitoring at least once a month, he says that emergency monitoring is also being done according to complaints or information received. "Consumers complain more in writing than verbally, after receiving complaints, we go to follow-up based on priority," Pun said, "We are committed to protecting consumer rights."
Since there is still a lack of information about consumer rights and commercial responsibilities in the shops in rural areas, Prajia Pun, the coordinator and assistant of the joint market monitoring team, said that they are working with local levels to reach remote areas. She also said that traders and consumers are becoming more aware in recent times.
The administration insists that traders should be responsible for the health, rights and rights of consumers. Verbal instructions will be given to immediately remove the irregularities found in the monitoring and the process of fines or action will be initiated in case of serious violations. Pun says that along with
monitoring, there is a need to conduct awareness programs.
