Three farmers of Bajhang have been honored with state-level awards for their excellent agricultural work.
Makar Bohra of Chabispathivera Rural Municipality-6, from the award given by the Agricultural Knowledge Center of Sudurpaschim Province, Keshavraj Bista of Jaiprithvi Municipality-3 and Shamser Thapa, a farmer of Khaptadchanna Rural Municipality-6, were awarded. The prize money is 25,000 cash, certificate and gift card.
In the presence of Bajhang District Municipal Chiefs and Deputy Chiefs, Nar Bahadur Bohra, Chief of District Coordination Committee Bajhang, handed over the award to them. Awarded Bohra and Thapa are cultivating organic vegetables professionally while Bisht is raising pigs and chickens.
23-year-old Thapa of Khaptadchanna, who has been involved in commercial vegetable farming since a young age, is now producing various types of vegetables on 15 plants of land. He earns more than 10 lakhs annually from vegetable farming. He, who is studying at the graduate level, said that the honor he received will inspire the young generation to take up agriculture. There is still a thought of looking down on those who are farmers in the village. I myself have experienced such behavior many times,' he said, 'I hope that the respect given by the province today will inspire many young people like me who work in agriculture to do better.'
He complained that local level people's representatives give agricultural subsidies to activists rather than real farmers. There are seven/eight other youths in the village who work professionally like me. They are never encouraged by the village council. But those who walk in front of the leader are given a subsidy every year,' he said.
In the same program, farmer Minadevi Budha of Chhabispathivera Rural Municipality-6 and Gopilal Bista of Dinanot Rural Municipality-7 were also honored with certificates and medals for doing excellent agricultural business . Respected elders have been doing commercial vegetable farming and fruit farming and nurseries for a long time. He is cultivating oranges, lemons, junar, cardamom and is contributing to the expansion of fruit farming by producing different types of plants in the nursery. Mina Devi is the leader of the work of transforming the village into a model agricultural village. More than 10 lakhs annually from commercial vegetable farming She has been encouraging other farmers of the village to start commercial vegetable farming. 'You can get respect even if you sweat on the ground,' she said happily.
Agricultural Development Officer Janak Bahadur Singh informed that before recommending the farmers for the award, commercial farmers across the district were monitored. Speaking at the
award ceremony, Khem Paneru, head of Agricultural Knowledge Center Bajhang, said that although Bajhang district in the far western hills has a very good potential for agriculture from the point of view of geography and climate, due to the lack of coordination between the three levels of government, the expected results have not been achieved . "We have no choice but to walk together to realize the possibilities here." It has been proven that running alone will not get you anywhere,' he said.
