Dozens of excavators and tippers are deployed along with hundreds of soldiers of the Nepali Army. Currently, equipment and people are very busy on the four-lane concrete bridge built on the Mahakali river. It is busy not only during the day but also till 9/10 at night.
The construction of the guide bond on the east side of the concrete bridge which was destroyed by the flood of Mahakali river last year and the channelization work is going on at a fast pace.
The work is being done by the Nepali Army.
It was decided by the Council of Ministers on June 6th to declare the area where the guide bond was destroyed as a crisis and to work through the army. According to the same decision, the army started working from the second week of May. Before that, the District Disaster Management Committee had also recommended three wards of Bhimdatta municipality, which are in the area where the guide bond was broken, to be declared as a crisis.
"Now, the filling work of the guide bond is 90 percent complete," said Nishant Pandit, chief engineer of the Nepal Army's engineer department, "now we are starting the work of erosion prevention." The said work has also started .
'The goal is to complete the erosion prevention work within the next ten days, even if the weather cooperates,' Pandit said, 'Even now, there is a problem to work when the water level in the river rises from time to time, and there are also some problems when the gates of Sarada Barrage are suddenly opened.'
equipment and troops are working from morning till 9/10 pm . Work is being done by arranging lights on the river bank. Pandit says that work is being done day and night with the goal of being able to do it before the rains start.
The channelization work is also being done in full swing to divert the flow of the Mahakali river to the middle part. Dozens of excavators and tippers are being used for this. According to Chief Senani Pandit, the channelization work will be 200 meters wide and 2600 meters long. "We are hoping that more vehicles will be available after the canal is closed, then the speed of work will increase," Pandit said, "At present, because excavators and tippers are not available, few are being used." Similarly, more than 600 army soldiers are also engaged in the work.
The work of river channelization has been completed in 50 meters width and about 1700 meters length . If the tools increase, the speed of work will also increase . Pandit says that even if the flow of water increases a little for channelizes, it will not make a difference. According to him, the work will continue until the end of June.
Pandit said that the work of the guide bond will continue continuously even when the water level in the river rises and falls. According to him, even if there is a big flood, the repair work will be done immediately. The length of the bridge built on Mahakali river is 800 meters. The width of the river in that area is about 2 km . On both sides of the bridge, ponds of 6/6 hundred meter width and 28/28 hundred meter length are being constructed .
Among those guide bonds, the guide bond towards Bhimdatta municipality was destroyed by last year's flood. Initially, the guidebond was designed to be built with large stones . But after the construction company did not get a big stone, the design had to be changed and the wire mesh had to be filled with stones and concrete. Although the said design was approved, there was no variation. Even a year after the destruction of the guide bond, the repair work could not be done due to the lack of variation. That is why the area has been declared a crisis and the army is working on it.
