Darshu Dagaunra of Bedkot Municipality-5 Dharampur is staying at Muktakamaiya camp. He was born in a house where his parents were working, and he knows only a little about it. That pain has also made him a laborer. After Kamaiya Mukt, there was a problem of getting food for some time.
He was 12/13 years old at that time. He started working as a wage earner with a house-builder (carpentry) mason. It made household expenses easier. While working as a wage earner, he also learned mason work. Now he is the best mason of the village. He is unable to work.
Not only Darshu, his wife Parvati is also a mason. She also learned carpentry while working with her husband. Now both of them have started taking contracts for building houses and employing others as well . Dagaunra couple has become head mason .
"Earlier, I had to wander around looking for work, now I am not able to find one, we have given work to other masons and laborers," said Parvati, "It is better than working in prison." The husband is on one side and the wife on the other. If the big job is a slope or something difficult, both go together .
Parvati learned the trade of mason while working with her husband. After that, it became easier after three months of training by the non-governmental organization. Now he can work alone. "While working with my husband, my hands were full, cleaning was also coming," she said, "Talim learned how to build an earthquake-resistant house with various designs." If Darshu has a problem somewhere, she will help. She tells what she doesn't know. This couple has become an example of working together and learning from each other.
Darshu worked in this job for about 8 years. While working, he also learned the work of a mason. Worked with an apprentice mason for two/four years. He says that it makes it easier to do unknown work and improves learning.
'After that I started taking contracts alone, I used to do two/three houses a year,' he says, 'The pressure has increased after my wife also learned to work, now she has not gone to work for twelve months.' Even now, he is building two big houses. He has also employed other masons of the village as daily wages. Dagaunra says that one can save around 1500 rupees daily even when working on contract.
From that, he said, the household expenses and children's education are saved a little. He says that since he works with a couple, he understands each other's situation and also knows all the problems. The Dagaunra couple has no farming . There is a son and a daughter . Daughter is studying in class 7 and son in class 3 .
